Family & Pro-Life
The Office of Family Life assists the Bishop in his pastoral care of marriage and the family and in his promotion of a culture of life from conception to natural death. The office provides programs in both English and Spanish in the following areas:
— marriage preparation, including Conferences for Engaged Couples as well as training and ongoing support for parish mentor couples and pastoral ministers;
— marriage and parenting, including talks, workshops, 25th & 50th Wedding Anniversary Masses and Diocesan Marriage & Family Conferences;
— pro-life activities, including education, liturgies, Rosaries, sidewalk counseling, post-abortion ministry, annual March for Life, public relations, and legislative advocacy in collaboration with the Indiana Catholic Conference and the USCCB Secretariat for Pro-Life Activities;
— Natural Family Planning (NFP) diocesan program, as well as promoting and supporting Creighton Model NFP consultants and practitioners of NaProTechnology (to assist those experiencing infertility);
— education in human sexuality, including the First Comes Love program for 8th grade students and their parents, talks and classes on the Theology of the Body as well as training and ongoing support for teachers and catechists;
— bioethical issues in consultation with the National Catholic Bioethics Center, including workshops for priests and pastoral ministers as well as personal consultation in dealing with specific cases.
