Superintendent Myers
To Our General Motors Families:
We know a transition can often become a challenge; we would like to extend our warmest welcome to you as you move to the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. Our schools offer your children vast opportunities to grow spiritually while they share and practice the truth and beauty of their Catholic faith. Our academic programs will prepare them well and most graduates of Bishop Luers and Bishop Dwenger High Schools receive substantial college academic scholarships and tuition assistance. Contained within this web site is a list of our schools and parishes. Please contact the school principals directly; they are prepared to plan a visit for you and your children. If you like, please call me at 260-422-4611 so we can help to make your move to Fort Wayne the blessing God intended. If you call us, we can arrange to have your child make direct contact with our Catholic students who are anxious to greet them. We look forward to hearing from you; please know that you are in our prayers.
Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Most Reverend Kevin C. Rhoades as the ninth bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend. The Catholic Schools Office welcomes him and we look forward  to working closely with Bishop Rhoades to continue to extend the Catholic school advantage to children within the diocese. Our mission is to see that every school in our diocese will model the teachings of the church, reinforce parental Catholic values, and contribute to the spiritual and academic growth of all Catholic children.
Saint Mother Theodore Guerin, one of only eight American saints and the only saint ever canonized from Indiana, is the foundress of our Catholic schools in the Diocese of Fort Wayne – South Bend. Saint Mother Theodore Guerin opened schools in Fort Wayne at the site of our chancery, at the present St. Jude campus, and on the property now occupied by St. John the Baptist parish and school. She used her many gifts through Christ for charity. Saint Mother Theodore Guerin committed her life to the church and schools; her faithfulness to love and teach children is well documented. Today, our communion with Saint Mother Guerin through prayer and intercession serves as an inspiration for all of us within the diocese to build on the early work she began here to serve Christ, the parishes, and our diocesan schools.
Our teachers and administrators from Allen County in the east to St. Joseph County on the west side of Northeastern Indiana continue to provide school environments with a strong and present Catholic identity in order for children to practice and share the truth and beauty of their faith. The religious programs provided through the Office of Catechesis are extremely effective; our norm-referenced religious education test scores rank among the highest of Catholic schools in the nation. The academic success of our students is measured by the record amounts of scholarship money offered annually to the the seniors of our four Catholic high schools as well as other metrics, and public recognition by the Indiana Department of Education. These quantifiable spiritual and academic advantages acquired by our children are the result of the dedicated commitment of our teachers, administrators, staff, pastors, board members, lay volunteers, grandparents, and parents who contribute their time, treasure, and talents to our school communities in so many ways.
Please contact me if you have suggestions or questions, or if you would like to know more about the Catholic schools of the Diocese of Fort Wayne – South Bend. We would like to share more about our Catholic schools and we would like to hear from you.
