About Education for Ministry

Education for Ministry is a two-year program offering a rich foundation in religious studies. This program is intended for those participating in various ministries in the diocese, such as Catholic school teachers, parish catechists, DREs, youth ministers and RCIA team members, or adults who are interested in growing in their knowledge of the Catholic faith as well as parents home-schooling their children. Upon completion of the program, participants receive Diocesan Certification in Catechetical Leadership.

Classes for Education for Ministry follow a school calendar and are scheduled from August to May. The program is built on a foundation of Scripture Study and the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church: Creed, Sacrament (& Liturgy), Morality and Prayer. Additional areas of study include Catechetical Methods and the Theology of Ministry. All participants must begin the program with the Scripture Modules and follow the sequence of classes as offered.

Through a generous grant from Our Sunday Visitor this program is offered free of charge. Participants must have a copy of the required text: the Catechism of the Catholic Church and any other books needed for the various subjects. The cost of the books is the responsibility of the participant and/or parish. We make every effort to keep the book cost to a minimum.

Each evening begins with the Liturgy of the Hours using the Glenstal Book of Prayer. Time is also given to the experience of mature dialogue about course content and its application to life.

Education for Ministry is, as so beautifully stated in the document Adult Catechesis in the Christian Community:
… an invitation to faithfully practice the discipleship of Jesus and to judge all personal, social, and spiritual experiences in the light of faith. ACCC #36
