World Youth Day
World Youth Day (WYD) was initiated by Blessed Pope John Paul II in 1985. It is celebrated on a diocesan level annually, and at a week-long international level every 2 to 3 years at different locations. The international level events attract hundreds of thousands of youth from almost every country on the planet.
Click here for a short video presentation on how it all began.
The next World Youth Day will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2013. The theme will be “Go and Make Disciples of All Nations”
From August 10-22, 2011 120 young adults and teens from this diocese joined Bishop Rhoades for a pilgrimage. It included a retreat in Lourdes, France, stops in Loyola and Burgos, Spain, followed by WYD events and Mass with Pope Benedict XVI in Madrid. Read the Blog below to follow what they experienced on a day to day basis.
