Thank you for your interest in teaching in the Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend.  Of the Diocese's forty-four schools, twenty-two are located in the South Bend Area and twenty-two are in the Fort Wayne Area.  Most of the schools are located in the cities of Fort Wayne and South Bend, however some schools are located in smaller towns and rural areas.  The mission of our schools is to teach the teachings of Jesus Christ and ensure academic success for all students.

Essential Qualifications of a Teacher
Responsible to: Principal

Duties and Responsibilities:

Models and teaches Catholic values and morals.

Works cooperatively with administrators, faculty, students and parents to form Christian community in the school and parish.

Prepares lesson plans in assigned subject area and grade level in accordance with state and diocesan guidelines.

Recognizes the variety of student learning styles and facilitates learning by adapting instructional methods and teaching materials to student needs.

Uses various assessments to measure student growth.

Assigns and monitors student activities to promote student learning.

Supervises students within the school and on playground.

Consistently enforces the school's discipline policies.

Communicates regularly and effectively with parents regarding student progress.

Maintains school records as required by school policy.

Performs other work related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

Teachers "must have a knowledge of, and a respect for, the Catholic faith and a commitment to Christian living.  It is highly recommended that whenever possible, a Catholic in good standing, endowed with a Catholic philosophy, be hired to work in a Catholic school." (P3035)  To clarify and develop this role, all teachers participate in Religious Education in-service days during the school year.

Indiana teaching license in appropriate grade level/teaching area; or demonstrated eligibility to receive license.

High level thinking skills.

Currently qualified to speak and write coherently, fluently and grammatically correct English.

Currently physically qualified to supervise students adequately.

Strong written, verbal presentation, and interpersonal skills.

All applicants for teaching in the schools of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend must submit a complete application packet.  From a list of candidates approved by the Catholic Schools Office in Fort Wayne, the principal at each elementary school hires staff members.  If any principal in the diocese is in need of a teacher or substitute teacher, the principal will contact the Catholic Schools Office. Please do not contact each individual elementary school.

Applicants for high school teaching positions may submit their application directly to the high school of their choice.  Applicants for high school religion teacher or campus minister should contact the Office of Catechesis at 260-422-4611 x3318 for an application.

In addition to the teacher application and personal response form, you will need to submit the following items:

Transcript from each college or university attended
Teaching license(s)
Verification of any prior teaching experience

One pastoral and two professional references

When the Personnel Office has received and reviewed your application packet, your name will be added to the approved list for hiring.

Also note that these documents require signatures. This being the case, you may fill them out electronically but they must be printed and mailed so that we have the applicant's signature. If you cannot download this file, please e-mail the CSO webmaster and you will be sent a copy via an attachment.
