Pilgrimage to Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI Mass in New York
Friday, April 18 – Sunday, April 20

High School Teens from our diocese will be selected to travel to New York to attend the Papal Mass at Yankee Stadium.

Many of the details for the trip are being worked out.  More information will be provided as it becomes available.

The diocese will cover the cost of travel.  Teens need to provide for their own food and drink (money or brought from home) and any spending money.  Assistance with food expense can be available if needed (please don’t allow cost to prevent you from applying).

To be considered, ALL of the following need to be completed and postmarked by January 28, 2008.

  1. Pastor Recommendation Form
  2. Parental Consent & Medical Release Form
  3. Identification Form (yet to be determined)
  4. Essay (**Not to exceed 2 pages typed, double spaced)

Essay Details
Answer the question posed by Pope Benedict in his recent  Encyclical Spe Salvi:

“…can our encounter with the God who in Christ has shown us his face and opened his heart be for us too not just “informative” but “performative”—that is to say, can it change our lives, so that we know we are redeemed through the hope that it expresses?”  (Spe Salvi, 4).

Responses must include one creative and specific way that teens can bring their encounter with Pope Benedict back to their parish, youth group, or school, so that their trip will have a "ripple effect" here in our diocese.
