Vision Statement

The Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend commits itself to advocate for the dignity, acceptance, and inclusion of all people in our church, school, and pastoral ministries. As a Catholic Community we will assist and support parishes, schools, and our local communities to create an environment that respects the right of all persons to live, learn and grow in holiness.

World Meeting of Families

ZEAL: Missionary Discipleship Summit

     

Fr. Mike Depcik, OSFS from the Archdiocese of Detroit, con-celebrated Mass with Bishop Rhoades.  He is one of only ten deaf priests in the world.  He serves in the Archdiocese of Detroit and celebrates Mass at the St. John's Deaf Center and at Our Lady of Loretto Church. An interpreter for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing signed the Mass, the Keynote Speech and Fr. Mike's morning and afternoon workshops. 


Mass for the Deaf

        

Fr. Mike Depcik, OSFS celebrated Mass at the Archbishop Noll Center in Fort Wayne. People from across the diocese gathered to pray together and to enjoy a light meal and fellowship. Fr. Mike offered the Sacrament of Reconciliation.


Day of Reflection for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing

       

St. Vincent de Paul Spiritual Center in Fort Wayne was the location for this special event. One of the participants shared "we have learned a lot this day about our Catholic faith -more than we have in our lifetime.  We have so much as deaf people to learn about our beautiful Catholic faith." Fr. Mike was the featured speaker and presented "The Best Ways to Become a Saint" which included the following recommendations: 

   Pray a lot
  Go to Mass regularly
  Go to Confession regularly
  Serve other people 
  Read Bible regularly
  Ask Saints to help you and pray for you 


Patron Saint for the Deaf

'After the death of Ricfried in 815/816, Frederick was chosen as Bishop of Utrecht. He was known for his piety and erudition.Shortly after his death, Frederick was canonized. His feast day is 18 July and he is the patron saint of the deaf. He was buried in St. Salvator's Church in Utrecht.
