Vision Statement
"For over a century, Catholic campus ministry in our country,
empowered by the Spirit, has been forming communities of faith which witness to the presence of the risen Christ. Now we are at the beginning
of a new era filled with opportunities to build up the faith community on campuses
and to promote the well-being of higher education and society as a whole."
-- Pastoral Letter on Campus Ministry
"Young adult ministry is a response to the needs of young adults,
an invitation to share their gifts with the larger community, and a challenge
to live Gospel values in the world."
-- Working Definition of Young Adult Ministry
To fulfill this vision a vision of Catholic young adults being formed into communities of faith and bringing the light of the Gospel to the academic world and beyond the Office of Campus and Young Adult Ministry is committed to:
1) establishing and maintaining an active and appropriate Catholic presence on
post-secondary academic campuses in the Diocese,
2) creating and nourishing Catholic faith communities for young adults wherever
possible,
3) providing convenient opportunities, whenever possible, for participation in the
sacramental life, mission and work of the Catholic Church,
4) witnessing and proclaiming Gospel values to the post-secondary academic
community,
5) offering retreat and other educational and formational opportunities,
6) promoting peace and justice issues and challenging young adults in service to
others,
7) counseling young adults as they discern personal, spiritual, and vocational
choices.
In addition to affirming and supporting young adults in their Catholic identity, we
encourage ecumenical dialogue and active cooperation with other campus ministry and young adult programs.
In this way, we hope to become part of the world of tomorrow, walking with college students and young adults as they search for answers, preparing them to be
tomorrow's Catholic leaders. |
